Study Skills Tutor:  Carolyn Craig-Emilsen has two roles on campus this semester.  She is available for all students to contact for tutoring in study skills.  As well, she is teaching the subject COM120 on campus.  This subject is designed to help students learn to navigate the requirements of academic study and writing.  The subject is worth 8 credit points towards your Bachelor of Theology degree.  It is usually taught by distance education mode, but for the first time the university is funding it to be taught on our site.  If you feel your skills are rusty, or that even though in the degree that you could do better with study, including researching for assignments and essay writing, then enroll!  To book an appointment to see Carolyn for Study Skills, please see Joanne and Renee at the front office or call on 8838-8914.

COM120 Reasoning, Values and Communication (8)

Abstract: This subject focuses on skills and knowledge relevant to the composition of an academic essay. It has four elements. The first introduces the fundamentals of argument and critical thinking. The second develops skills in writing and grammar. The third introduces generic study skills, such as academic referencing, the use of library databases, how to avoid plagiarism, and how to determine reputable sources. The forth presents students with a particular ethical topic, upon which they will focus their academic papers.

NT Research fellow: Welcome to Dr Ruth Sheridan, who for this next two years is taking up a postdoctoral fellowship at the college.  You will see her around occasionally, especially at the research seminars.

And there are some publications already
