Welcome back to classes from the study break.  Our hope is that it was a fruitful time of worship, rest and also writing.

FROM THE ACADEMIC DESK

Tackling plagiarism and academic misconduct
With essay writing now in full swing it is worth having a look at what constitutes academic misconduct and plagiarism, as well as learning how to keep well clear of such problems of academic writing.  Itu will run a series of sessions for students to help understand the university policies and also the instruments that are in place to help avoid any problems or misunderstandings.  A similar session will be run for faculty.

Research
Congratulations to Jione on the seminar he organized for Thursday, Friday and Saturday of last week: Bible Borders Belongings.  Participants included faculty from across the School of Theology and beyond.  The event was part of the CSU Centre for Contextual and Public Theology.

FROM THE CHAPEL
The college holds a service of Word and Sacrament every Wednesday at 11.45.  This week’s lectionary readings: Acts 3:12-19, Ps 4, 1 Jn 3:1-7, Lk 24:36b-48. All welcome.

Meditation is held in G2 at 1.00pm on Thursdays when classes are on.

FROM THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF KOREA

The General Secretary of the PCK, Rev Dr Seong Gi Cho, expresses his gratitude to all who gave such a warm welcome to them on the occasion of the PCK Centenary General Assembly, Korea-Australia Mission Conference held 22 February - 1 March. Rev Cho writes: “We experienced valuable ecumenical solidarity and oneness in Christ…and we were able to reflect upon the 100 years of our General Assembly and to dream for another 100 years ahead, especially the partner relationship we have had with UCA and our role in Asia and in the Pacific. We pray and hope our mission partnership will continually develop to the future for glorifying our God.”

God Crucified? A Future for Jesus? To mark the 40th anniversary of its publication, Jurgen Moltmann’s The Crucified God will be the focus of a two-day forum to be conducted at the Centre for Theology and Ministry in Melbourne (June 15-16, 2012). IN THE COMMUNITY: AWARDS
William Emilsen’s photographic exhibition of Goulburn Island (shown at the Centre last year) will be exhibited in the State Library of the Northern Territory Parliament in July/August this year. William was recently awarded a Northern Territory Government History Award for his work on Goulburn Island.  The church in action!

FACULTY
The members of the faculty are south of Perth the first week of the break, participating in the Uniting Church of Australia National Theological Educators Conference.

VISITORS
The faculty hosted the moderator of the New South Wales/Australian Capital Territory Synod, Rev Brian Brown, last week.  He led a discussion on the way the church, and the college, can take up the sense of ‘into new and risky paths.’  Amongst other things, there was a focus on the types of contributions a particular group like the College could make.

POSTPONED EVENT
Rhythms of Hope – which was planned to be held Friday evening 20th and Saturday 21st April at Strathfield Uniting Church, has been postponed. The new date will be advised once determined. Please pass this on to anyone who has expressed an interest in taking part.

SCHOLARSHIPS/GRANTS

ANZATS Student Scholarship - the 2012 ANZATS Conference is being held in Brisbane from 1st – 4th July. The theme of the Conference is ‘Theological Interpretation of the Bible, Church and World’. ANZATS is offering two student scholarships for the conference. Applications must be submitted electronically by 1st May. The Australian Research Theology Foundation Inc is inviting applications for grants for 2012-2013.
