We hope that you are enjoying the break from classes. On Monday a Writers’ Workshop was held attended by 12 participants - all those who took part found the day very enjoyable and helpful. Next week a Cross-Cultural Orientation will be held on 18-19 April lead by Katalina Tahaafe-Williams - please contact Student Administration if you would like to participate in this course.

Out & About

Ben spoke last week at an Easter service for Epping North Public School, and at the Easter camp for OneHeart in Eastwood. He was also interviewed for a Good Friday programme on ABC radio: http://www.abc.net.au/sundaynights/stories/s3727892.htm?site=sunshine

Biggest Afternoon Tea, Tuesday 4 June, 2.45pm - UTC will be hosting this fundraiser for the Cancer Council. More information to come.

The lectionary for this Sunday 14 April, (Easter 3) is Acts 9:1-6, (7-20), Psalm 30, Revelation 5: 11-14, John 21:1-19 (White).

Study Skills - If you would you like assistance in study skills, please contact Student Admin who can arrange a session with the Study Skills Tutor, Carolyn Craig-Emilsen. Sessions available: Monday 2.00-5.00pm, Tuesdays 10.30am-4.45pm, Thursdays 10.00am-12.15pm.

Turn it in and Plagiarism - Tuesday 23 April 2013, 1.00-1.30pm in G6 - Course Coordinator, Joanne Stokes, will be running a session at this time. Any queries, please contact Joanne.

For Sale - the library has a couple of laptops and a number of monitors which will be made available for purchase in the near future. If you are interested in purchasing one, please see the Library staff.

Introduction to Referencing Workshops - you are welcome to join workshops which will be held in the library computer room on the following dates:

  • Mondays from 5.00-6.00pm - March 25, April 22, May 29 and May 6
  • Thursdays from 5.00-6.00pm - April 4, May 2 and May 9

One to one help is also available by booking time through the library circulation desk.


SYNOD NEWS

Ordination of John Barker, Wednesday 24 April 2013, 6.00pm: all are welcome to join John at the Manly Village Church, West Promenade, Manly. John is excited to be accepting a placement at Balgowlah Uniting Church starting in May, which will be a shared ministry position that also includes working towards a ‘cluster’ ministry that involves a wider group of churches in the region. Best parking for the Ordination is Council parking off Whistler Street, Manly.

Christ and Cultures Gathering - Exploring the Missional Church, Saturday 18 May 2013, 9.30am-4.00pm at the Centre for Ministry - come and join a discussion to explore “What it means to be a Missional Church.” Keynote speakers: Dean Drayton and Amelia Koh-Butler. Cost $10.00 (morning & afternoon provided). Lunch BYO or Tamil restaurant food $15.00 extra Nb: for Tamil food register by 11 May. ASSEMBLY NEWS

Uniting Church joins Pacific Conference of Churches - The Uniting Church in Australia has expressed gratitude to Pacific churches for the decision of the Pacific Conference of Churches (PCC) to admit the Uniting Church as a member. The Church's application for full membership was considered by the 10th PCC General Assembly, which took place in Honiara in the Solomon Islands from 3-10 March 2013. The Uniting Church's application undertook to ensure that Pacific and indigenous communities in Australia within the Uniting Church will take a leadership role in the Church's future interactions with the PCC. Action to end poverty - UnitingWorld has joined Make Poverty History and Micah Challenge in a sector-wide action to end poverty. In a March 14 statement, UnitingWorld said, “With the Federal Election set for September 14 and both major parties wavering on their past commitment to international development, it is vital we come together to remind our political leaders that the community wants Australia do its part to end extreme poverty. The Movement to End Poverty is a joint, sector-wide petition allowing members of the public to sign on to the petition at any participating organisation’s website. GENERAL

Global Online Directory of theological education institutions - a unique global online directory of more than 7,000 theological education institutions has been launched to promote mutual sharing and dialogue between establishments in different parts of the world. The Global Directory of Theological Education Institutions is one of the results of the Global Survey on Theological Education, launched in October 2011. This was the first major world survey on the trends, needs and challenges in theological education and ministerial formation since the 1910 World Missionary Conference in Edinburgh.
