FROM THE FACULTY
A tribute to the late Rev Malcolm Maclead - next Tuesday 26th March from 2.45pm at the Community afternoon tea, the College and Centre for Ministry will be hosting a ceremony in recognition of the late Rev Malcolm Macleod, who was instrumental in the development of the Centre and a leader in the life of the College. All are welcome.
Retreat - on Wednesday 27th March 9.30am-3.30pm at the CFM, the College will be having its annual Retreat with guest speaker, Jan Sutch-Pickard.
PhD Awarded
Congratulations to Katalina Tahaafe-Williams, whose University of Birmingham PhD thesis was passed recently. The thesis is titled “Multicultural Church? Multicultural Ministry as the Tool for Building a Multicultural Church.” Katalina will be receiving her PhD at a graduation ceremony in July.
FROM THE CHAPEL
Chapel this Wednesday 20th is from 11.30am-12.45pm and will be held in the outdoor chapel, weather permitting. Lectionary (24th) remembers Passion Sunday and the readings are: Isaiah 50:4-9a, Psalm 31:9-16, Philippians 2:5-11, Luke 22:14-23; 56 or Luke 23:1-49. Please bring sun protection. The service is followed by Community lunch - all are welcome to this time of worship and fellowship.
 
UPCOMING EVENTS
David M Gunn, Friday 5 April, 1.30pm at the Centre for Ministry - David is a leading literary-critical author/co-author of books which provide analyses of biblical narratives, feminist interpretation, and the cultural history (verbal and visual) of the Bible – its reception or use and influence. His writings provide a road map for acquainting readers with narrative criticism of the Bible.
Cross-Cultural Orientation,18-19 April - contact Student Admin if you plan to attend this orientation.
FROM STUDENT ADMINISTRATION
Scholarships - Final date for submission of applications for First Session is this Friday, 22nd March. For an application form with further information, please see Student Admin for an undergraduate application form, or contact umeinfo@nsw.uca.org.au for a continuing education scholarship form.
Pasifika Students’ Talanoa - Thursday 4th April, 12.30-1.30pm
Pasifika Orientation - Wednesday 29th May, 7.00-9.30pm
Census Date - Wednesday 27 March - please note this is the last date for automatic withdrawal from subjects, for domestic students withdrawing to receive a refund of their fees, and to apply for a Leave of Absence.
Pizza Night, Thursdays - will now be held Thursdays from 5.30pm - come and join the fellowship. Cost is $5.00 per person weekly.
Flu Vaccinations - CSU are prepared to organized vaccinations for the flu for CSU students and staff if we get a minimum of 15 people interested. Registered nurses come on site on a specified date (yet to be determined) to administer the shots. The cost is $10. Any CSU student or faculty member who is interested in getting the flu vaccination here on site for $10, please contact Joanne Stokes by Monday 25th March, so we can determine numbers and make a booking.
 
FROM THE FIRST YEAR MENTOR
Getting connected to your university
Transition to University, Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th April, 9.00am-4.00pm at UTC - CSU will be holding a two day course on preparation for and transition to university. The two day course will cover the following important topics:
  • Academic expectations
  • University culture and structure
  • Support systems to help you
  • Reading and writing skills necessary for university study
  • Learning to think critically (a very important skill)
  • On-line learning strategies
Writers’ Workshop, Monday 8 April, 9.00am-4.00pm - UTC will be running a Writers’ Workshop covering the following topics:
  • Essay structure
  • The basics of writing
  • Academic argument
  • Analysing essay questions
  • Referencing and plagiarism
Registration for both workshops is essential. Please contact Sef Carroll secarroll@csu.edu.au or phone Student Admin on 8838 8914 to secure a place.
