FROM THE ASSEMBLY GENERAL SECRETARY, Terence Corkin

Songs that Unite is a publishing project being undertaken by the Assembly - the first attempt in 35 years of the Uniting Church – to develop a worship resource which is specifically oriented to supporting the theological and liturgical tradition of the Uniting Church – in a way that encourages contemporary Australian expressions of faith in words and music.

The goal is to encourage writing which is non-sexist; communal, culturally appropriate; inclusive, accessible to the majority and has imagery that is contextually appropriate and theologically sound.

Specific dimensions of theology that the Assembly wants to encourage include the love of Christ for all people, an emphasis on grace and forgiveness, care for creation, peace-making, ecumenical respect and justice.
